Job Description

The senior tax executive will have overall responsibility for all aspects of tax and of leadership for the global tax organization. The Senior Tax Executive will lead the design and implementation of global tax policy and strategies and contribute as a key member of the finance leadership team. He/she will be expected to grow the tax function commensurate with the growth of the company implementing best practices and optimizing the company’s tax structure.

Specific tax responsibilities will include the global tax provision, all U.S. and international tax research, planning, compliance and tax controversy, including income, sales and use, VAT and franchise taxes. As a member of the company’s financial leadership team, the Senior Tax Executive will interact with all levels of management including the CEO, CFO, general counsel, operating company executives and audit committee to proactively identify opportunities to minimize the corporation’s effective tax rate. The successful candidate will also be responsible for assessing and communicating to senior management the potential tax consequences of existing laws and pending legislation.

The Senior Tax Executive manages all planning, compliance and accounting for income taxes. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Leading the tax related analysis of business activities, structures and commercial transactions, including the identification and evaluation of alternatives and recommendation of solutions to senior management.
  • Setting global tax strategies for the corporation including the execution of strategies for the corporate tax function.
  • Establishing global tax policies and procedures with the objective of partnering with the business to determine the most tax efficient manner to repatriate cash, reduce the current tax liability and lower the effective tax rate.
  • Serving as a consultant to other departments by providing tax information and advice.
  • Developing tax efficient strategies for mergers, acquisitions and dispositions.
  • Being primary party responsible for global tax compliance.
  • Representing Cypress before all domestic and foreign tax examiners and defend the tax positions taken.
  • Reviewing and monitoring changes in domestic and foreign tax legislation, rulings, regulations, and litigation. Understanding the relevant impact and recommend and implement responsive action measures to manage existing positions and capture new opportunities.
  • Establishing and updating tax planning models to forecast the utilization of tax attributes, changes in tax positions and other opportunities. Assuring the adequacy of book tax provisions, tax reserves and deferred income taxes.
  • Ensuring that all global tax accounting is properly performed and complies with U.S. GAAP and statutory GAAP, as appropriate.
  • Ensuring tax accounts are reconciled, adequate controls exist, and the company’s SEC filings have appropriate disclosures.
  • Preparing and filing U.S. federal, state and local income and franchise tax returns, sales and use tax returns, and property tax returns. Interface with taxing authorities, including coordination of tax audits, negotiation of tax issues, appeals filings and directing litigation. Provide direction to external tax consultants and counsel.
  • Liaisoning with Accounting Staff on all technical matters relating to indirect taxes (sales, VAT and property taxes) and support their management of those tax processes.


The ideal candidate will have over a minimum of 20 years of public/private accounting experience, including at least eight years as a Senior Tax Executive of a multi-national, public company. A CPA and/or MBA is highly preferred. The candidate will also have an in-depth knowledge of ASC740 provisioning and technical requirements. Manufacturing company experience is preferred; however, working within a growing, complicated international environment is essential.
